Unbeaten record remains in tact
Haslemere battled hard to gain a point against a very determined and robust Waddon team.
The match started at a very lively pace with Haslemere very much on the offensive. The midfield of Katya, Charlotte, Katie, Emily & Cara worked hard and this enabled Izzy and Lily to find some space on the wings. Cara made two or three defence splitting passes but the Waddon central defender kept the forwards under control with some robust defending. However, Haslemere finally made their pressure tell when Katya managed to work a little space on the goal line and crossed for Georgia to smash home from 30 yards ( later verified as a three yard tap in but that doesn’t sound so good).
The first half finished with Haslemere a goal to the good although it came at a cost as Cara got kicked in the head and had to sit out most of the second half.
The second half was much more even and Waddon started to put the home defence under pressure. Both attacks started to find more space and chances came and went at both ends. Zoe and Georgia made some great runs and only good defending and goalkeeping kept them out. Things got worse for Haslemere when Izzy suffered a nose bleed and had to leave the field. Charlotte filled in at right back and did a great job and the rest of the team dug in to try and stop the now rampant Waddon attack. However, a fine move down the right ended with a great finish and Waddon were level. Cara & Izzy returned to the pitch and Haslemere dominated the later stages, apart from a couple of scares, and could have stolen all three points. On balance a fair result.
Lily was outstanding both in defending and her passing and the forwards did a great job against a very strong defender who certainly took no prisoners. Last mention goes to Cara and Izzy who despite taking blows to the head went back on and played their part in a great team performance.
