Wonder goal sets up win
Haslemere started the New Year in style by winning away against a tough Waddon team.
The match was reduced to 7 a side, due to Waddon losing a couple of players on the morning of the match, but Haslemere still managed to produce their best football of the season. Haslemere started brightly and passed the ball around well with Zoe in particular making some telling contributions. With the defence looking solid it was only a matter of time before Haslemere took the lead. The move that led to the first goal started in their own half and was smartly finished off by Emine. Waddon made a couple of breaks but Charlotte and Anna managed to deal with any threat and Maisy was left largely untroubled. The second goal stunned both sets of players and the travelling supporters when Cara's inswinging corner could only be helped into the net by the goalkeeper. It took a few seconds before anyone really knew what had happened. The away side were now totally in control and Katie's persistence set up an opportunity for Katya to score another stunning goal.
The second half display was somewhat disjointed mainly due to the many substitutions Haslemere were forced to make. This allowed Waddon to get back into the game and fortunately for Haslemere they missed one golden opportunity and were denied by Maisy on a couple of other occassions. To their credit they kept on plugging away and scored a late consolation goal.
Haslemere ran out worthy 3 - 1 winners and hopefully can look forward to similar results in the second half of the season.
