We're very sad to share the news that Martin Futcher, a long time servant of the club, passed away on the 4th November age 47. The phrase "top bloke" gets used often but it's rare that it's an opinion shared by everyone. He was always positive, always smiling and had a brilliant, dry sense of humour.
Martin was Haslemere through and through having been born here and lived here all his life. With his brother Ian, he was involved with our club for many years from taking part in the very first Suderburg exchanges in the early eighties to becoming a a dedicated coach for the club for many years. In particular he played a huge part in getting the girls section of our club up and running and had a fair amount of success taking his teams to a number of cup finals. Today our girls section is one of the strongest in the region with over a quarter of our total players being girls. This is due in a large part to the legacy that Martin worked so hard to get started and now continues on with Albert, Charlotte, David, Mike, Neil and Leon.
Next season we plan to start another girls team at U10 and we know that Martin would be proud of what he created. A top bloke who will be very much missed.
