Haslemere come out on top in close game

For the second week running Haslemere produced a great performance to edge an exiting game between two evenly matched teams

Without first choice goalie Maisy it was left to Cara & Katya to share the keeping duties. Both played a vital part in Haslemere securing a narrow win. Haslemere started where they left off last week and pressed the home team forcing them into errors. The passing and movement was good as was the defending. The breakthrough came after 10 minutes when Emine finished coolly after a fine run. An injury to Anna forced a reshuffle and Lily, who was dominating midfield, had to fill in at centre back. The midfield worked hard and when the home team did break through they were met with great defensive work from Izzy & Charlotte, both of whom had their best games of the season. Lily cleared up most of the long balls and Cara looked every inch a goalkeeper.

Colne Valley had a slight breeze at their backs in the second half and started to create a number of openings. Izzy, Lily & Charlotte supported by Emily, Ellen and Zoe managed to keep them at bay but a superb shot from outside the box evaded Cara to level the scores. Katya took over in goal and Cara reverted to a more familiar centre back role. This allowed Lily to move back into midfield and she soon made her presence felt when she finished off a surging run to put Haslemere back in the lead. Although Colne Valley piled on the pressure with a string of corners Haslemere held out to complete back to back wins.

In the absence of Maisy and an injury to our captain Haslemere can probably claim to be deserved winners in what was a very entertaining and sporting match.

Many thanks to Cara & Maisy for keeping goal and well done to all the girls on another fighting performance. Credit should also be given to coach Charlotte who managed the goalkeeping situation well and got the tactics spot on.
